The popular video-sharing platform will now automatically detect and tag videos that extensively utilize photorealistic artificial intelligence, supplementing existing requirements for creators to manually disclose their use of AI tools. Starting this week, YouTube will begin integrating an advanced internal system designed to pinpoint AI-generated elements within videos. If the system identifies substantial photorealistic AI involvement in a video and the creator has not specified its use, a label will be applied automatically. While creators retain the ability to dispute incorrect flags via YouTube Studio, certain labels, particularly for content produced with YouTube's proprietary AI tools like Veo or Dream Screen, or content embedded with C2PA metadata indicating full AI generation, will remain permanently affixed.
Furthermore, the display of AI content disclaimers is being significantly improved. Previously, such disclosures were tucked away in the expanded description section of videos. Moving forward, for longer videos, the AI label will appear directly beneath the video player, prominently positioned above the description. For YouTube Shorts, the label will be integrated as an overlay directly on the video itself, ensuring immediate visibility for viewers. This strategic placement, as articulated by Rene Ritchie, YouTube's head of editorial and creator liaison, is intended to provide instant context without affecting video recommendations or monetization, underscoring a commitment to informing users at a glance.
